New White House chief of staff Pete Rouse faces big challenge

Pete Rouse, a longtime Obama confidante, will step in for the exiting Rahm Emanuel as White House chief of staff. Known as a level-headed pragmatist with a knack for defusing conflict, Rouse is a stark contrast to the mercurial Emanuel, whose reputation for political brawling will be useful in the race for mayor of Chicago. As the brand new White House chief of staff, Rouse is flying into political headwinds that will only increase in the next two years—an opposing force analysts predict could stall any further progress with the Obama agenda. Rouse is the ‘anti-Rahm’

Obama declared Friday that White House chief of staff was going to be taken over by Rouse. He said Rouse was a “skillful problem solver” which is why he got the position. Sheryl Gay Stohlberg of the New York Times said Rouse was virtually unknown outside the White House, but he has been very influential within it. Stohlberg wrote that “Rouse is the anti-Rahm.” Emanuel liked everyone knowing that he was good and doing good for the country. Rouse, on the other hand, is more reserved and does things nobody notices. Obama’s senatorial office was run by Rouse before this when he was chief of staff for previous Senate Democratic leader Tom Daschle. Next he went with Obama into the White House in order to be a senior advisor. He is really close to the president, most say.

Toughest job you are able to get with the govt

Seems like like Pete Rouse has a lot to do with his new job. It has got to be hard taking over Emanuel’s job. Even before Rouse was officially called to the position, Dana Milbank of the Washington Post said he had “the worst week in Washington” due to how much is facing the White House right now. Milbank wrote that Rouse is “stepping to the hardest job in govt at one of the most difficult times imaginable.” November elections aren’t looking very good for Democrats. Republicans will probably take over many seats. The next two years of rule making could be really hard. Obama may not be able to follow his agenda.

Anger originating from Palin

Pete Rouse has already done something wrong. That is what Sarah Palin thinks. According to CNN, Palin begun tweeting innuendo about Rouse as soon as his name came up as a possible replacement for Emanuel. CNN explains that Palin is angry about the yearly dividend Rouse has tried to get. He kept is voting registration in Alaska in order to get it. Check out the Alaska Permanent Fund dividend record. Rouse isn’t on there anywhere. Palin’s accusations were called “fairly silly,” by Robert Gibbs, White House Press Secretary.
