Senate confirms Austan Goolsbee as chair for economic council

There has been no development in the economic system with President Obama. This is why he is getting a whipping from all sides. In a speech he made in Cleveland, he was, when it comes to understanding “the plight of the middle class,” really disconnected, says Arianna Huffington. ”Not anything we’ve done during the last couple of years has worked as quickly as we had hoped, and I’m keenly aware that not all our policies are popular,” was what Obama said. The Wall Street Journal explains that longtime adviser Austan Goolsbee likely got nominated for chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisors because of this. The Senate already cleared Goolsbee’s nomination.

Austan Goolsbee – University economist and advisory board member

Goolsbee works at the University of Chicago business school where he is an economist while also working on Obama’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board as the executive director. The WSJ says popular speculation is the president elevated Goolsbee to the White House Council of Economic Advisers chairmanship due to their personal friendship and association within the administration’s inner circle. Goolsbee will replace previous Economic Advisers chairwoman Christina Romer.

Goolsbee is rumored by the WSJ to have helped with the health care bill, higher education aid and the energy push to create jobs by drafting policies with Obama. These areas are part of the president’s “New Foundation” for middle-class economic security – at least in theory, says the Huffington Post.

We may not want the change Austan Goolsbee will bring

Joblessness numbers in America have continued to go up. At the exact same time, the recession is not recovering as we’d hope also. Every person seems angry about this, including Democrats, and firings are being discussed. These would consist of firing Treasure Secretary Tim Geithner and National Economic Council Director Larry Summers. Goolsbee in charge of the White House Council of Economic Advisors might not really help the country at all. The WSJ thinks it will mean every little thing will stay the same.
